Stories: By & For Children

In April 2016 we hosted a three-day Young Writers Course for Gifted and Talented pupils from Oxfordshire primary schools. Attending from nine schools, pupils received coaching by author Caroline Lawrence and visited the Museum of the History of Science to take inspiration from its collection. Alongside the course, we ran a short stories competition inviting children to write stories, and adults to write stories for children.

The stories were judged by Clare Morgan, Director of the Mst in Creative Writing at the Oxford University Department for Continuing Education, and Sarah Franklin, founder of regular Oxford event Short Stories Aloud and judge of the 2015 Short Story Costa Book Awards.

A selection of children who participated in the course and competition winners were invited to read their stories alongside Caroline Lawrence and Curtis Jobling, during a special evening of stories by and for young people at the Festival.
