The Juliet Letters
The starting point for The Juliet Letters goes back to the 1930s when the guardian of Juliet’s tomb in Verona started replying to letters which were left at the graveside. This phenomenon grew and now thousands of letters arrive every year.
These letters formed the basis of a remarkable and groundbreaking musical collaboration between Elvis Costello and the Brodsky Quartet.
Tonight it is performed by the innovative string quartet OXUS with Pam Pecko Smith. Pam Pecko Smith performs with an eclectic range of ensembles and has her own vintage jazz group ‘Honeysuckle Jazz’.
OXUS and Pam Pecko Smith will bring you a musical evening unlike anything you’ve heard before; guaranteed to send you home pondering the nature of love letters, chain letters, begging letters, and evenjunk mail.
